Gena Hull was born in Germany but spent most of her life in or around the Chicago, Illinois area. She attended the University of Illinois and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1966. After graduation, she taught first grade in Urbana, Illinois for four years. Those were exciting times of change in education and the Urbana School District was one of the leaders in making those changes happen. While there she started to work on a Master's in Educational Psychology. That put her in the midst of all the excitement. As a result, she was named "Outstanding Young Educator" and had a demonstration classroom for Individually Prescribed Instruction.

The family moved to downtown Chicago, Illinois after her daughter was born. There she spent 18 years teaching at Catherine Cook, a private school before she went to teach at St. Luke's Academy, a Lutheran School in the city. There she began a three year old program. That is when she realized that teaching at a Christian School was her real call.

As her children grew up and her life changed, she decided to visit Phoenix, Arizona in the summers where she attended summer classes at Arizona State University West.  She began work on a Master's in Elementary Education to give her something to do and received her Masters in Elementary Education with a reading emphasis in 2000.  She loved everything about the Southwest even the heat. While worshiping at the old Joy Campus, she saw that they were opening a new elementary school.  Then God went to work and He hasn't stopped yet.  She was unable to come to Joy Christian School the first year it opened, but packed up everything and moved down the second year. She has taught first grade for ten years.

Life has never been better. God has given her so many opportunities. She has grown in her relationship with the Lord but most importantly she is able to daily share God's Love with the children that she teaches. She has watched God work at Joy Christian School throughout the years. Gena is so blessed to be a part of God's Work.
