Jody Cecil Born and raised in a small town in Idaho, Jody Cecil had always known that God had great plans in store for her. Her decision to attend Seattle Pacific University was the beginning of an amazing journey that led her to Community Church of Joy and Joy Christian High School. In 1991, she received a B.A. in Communication from SPU and was also a Biblical Studies minor. Mrs. Cecil met her husband, Steve, while attending SPU, but they didn’t get married until several years after when they began working together for various nonprofit organizations in Seattle. They have one beautiful daughter, Megan, but Mrs. Cecil also claims many of her former students and athletes as her children. In 1998, Mrs. Cecil obtained her teaching certification from Arizona State University West, and worked for seven years in the Deer Valley Unified School District. Although she first taught science at Hillcrest Middle School, her last four years as a Language Arts teacher were her favorite. As a public school teacher, she was always dedicated to sharing Christ with the students, even if she had to be unique in the ways that she shared His love. In 2004, Mrs. Cecil was one of fifteen teachers who received Deer Valley Education Foundation’s “Teacher of the Year” Award. Since joining the family of Joy Christian School in the fall of 2006, Mrs. Cecil has served in a number of roles. No matter the position, the most important focus of her role at JCHS will always be building relationships with the students and families of Joy and sharing the love of Christ. Mrs. Cecil, her husband and daughter have been members of CCOJ since 2004 and have been involved in several areas. Currently, she is involved with a small group and a sings with Joy’s worship team. Passionate about teenagers and their unique challenges, Mrs. Cecil loves being a part of a Christian high school where she can openly communicate her love for Christ.
