Mark Walth Mr. Walth grew up in a Lutheran pastor’s home in a small Nebraska town. His love for music came early in his life as he started playing the drums in the 5th grade, had a drum-set by 6th grade, and played with the high school jazz band by 7th grade. He taught himself guitar when he was 14, at which time, he began writing Christian camp-style songs. Mr. Walth’s love for music was rivaled only by his love for drama. Numerous plays, musicals, one-act and speech contests through high school and college helped prepare him for teaching and directing numerous shows while working in the public schools. After ten years of teaching in public schools, God called him into full-time youth ministry at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Grand Island, Nebraska. At the end of 7 years, God used a leadership conference at Willow Creek Community Church in the Chicago area to plant a new seed for ministry in his life. The Lord reconnected him with Pastor Paul Sorensen at Community Church of Joy (CCOJ) in July of 2000. Since his arrival at CCOJ, he has served as an intern and Director of Singles Ministry. Beginning the 2006-07 school year, Mr. Walth is using his musical gifts to begin an instrumental music program at Joy Christian’s lower and middle schools. In addition, he will assist Beverly Altopp in developing and teaching the Creative Arts program at the high school. Mr. Walth is a graduate of Dana College where he earned a Bachelor of
Arts Degree in Vocal Performance. Additionally, he has an instrumental
endorsement and eighteen hours of graduate credits in Music Education
and Performance from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln. Mr. Walth and Mrs. Beverly Altopp share the responsibilities of teaching the high school Creative Arts classes.
