Wendy Ju-Miao Hsiao
High School Chinese Teacher

Wendy Ju-Miao Hsiao was born and raised in Taiwan. She had lived in her country for her entire life until she came to the United States for study. In 2000 she went to Bethel College, Mckenzie, TN where she earned her first masters degree in education. In 2001 she continued her study in education and received her second masters degree.  She also earned a teaching certificate in special education in 2004 from Arizona State University (ASU), Tempe, AZ.

After graduating from ASU, Ms. Hsiao worked as a special education teacher at Sequoia Choice School for two years. She worked mostly with gifted and talented students with learning difficulties. Her dedication creates an environment of support and encouragement to facilitate students to work to their full potential. Besides working as a special education teacher, she began teaching Chinese at Joy Christian High School in the summer of 2006. She has been teaching Chinese as a second language at Chinese Linguistic Sunday School of Phoenix since 2004.

Ms. Hsiao was an English teacher in her country and taught English for eight years. Her experience in teaching English inspired her to become an editor of English teaching materials for English learners and for those who are with learning difficulties. She created a combination learning method of Chinese phonetics and Kenyon & Knott phonetic symbols to make learning English easier and faster. In the same way, it is her hope that through her teaching Chinese in the United States, she will be able to create a teaching method and edit Chinese teaching materials for students who are learning Chinese as foreign Language and those who are learning Chinese as second Language in English speaking countries.

Ms. Hsiao feels honored and blessed to be a pioneer in teaching Chinese at Joy Christian High School. She deems teaching high school youth who are interested in learning Chinese as a foreign language a privilege and responsibility for her. By developing a comprehensive curriculum for her students, “Ms. Wendy” takes them exploring through Chinese culture and broadens their view and understanding of the Chinese world.
