Jim James is a native Phoenician and is thankful to have attended Christian schools here in the valley since the third grade.

Jim accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized while attending Lutheran grade school.  Later, he committed his life to serving Jesus during his senior year at a Christian high school.  He trained for the ministry and studied God’s Word at Arizona College of the Bible, where he received his bachelor’s degree.

Growing up, Jim was very successful athletically and grew to love sports.  He gave up the opportunity to wrestle collegiately to focus on preparing for the ministry.  It was during that first year of college that God gave him the opportunity to coach and work with kids in the area of athletics.  Jim jumped at the chance to use athletics as the vehicle to build character, instill God-based values, and pray with kids on a daily basis.

In 2001, Jim was hired by Joy Christian School to use his talents to build the athletic program from the ground floor up.  He offers a variety of sports for all grade levels, teaching fundamentals and Christ-like sportsmanship to all his students.

Additionally, Jim is the chairman of the Black Canyon Lutheran Athletic League, which encompasses Lutheran schools throughout the state.  He has coached multiple championship teams in softball, soccer, cross country, basketball, and track within the League.

Jim is very excited about the opportunity God has given him to continue that success at Joy Christian High School.  This also allows him the chance to pursue his passion in coaching football and wrestling, as well as develop high quality teams in other sports offered at the 1A level through the Arizona Interscholastic Association (A.I.A.).

Coach James’ responsibilities and duties at JCS are:

Athletic Director
Physical Education Teacher
