Debbie Heitland
Lead Teacher – 3 & 4 Year Olds, Co-op Preschool

Debbie was born in Mississippi but soon moved to Florida with her parents and her five older siblings.  After her high school graduation, Debbie moved to Iowa with her parents and sister.  She worked in retail and continued her education at the University of Northern Iowa.

In 1978, while working at a school supply business, she met her future husband, Les.  They were married on February 2, 1980, and were blessed with three beautiful daughters.  Debbie and her family moved to the Valley in 1988 and have since added two sons-in-law to their family and are expecting their first grandchild in April 2007.

Debbie has always felt led to work with children.  She was actively involved as a Girl Scout Leader for 9 years, taught at numerous Vacation Bible Schools, and has worked with the youth groups of her churches in Iowa and Arizona since 1987.  She was also a teacher and then director of her church’s preschool for 4 years, then ran her own home daycare for 17 years before coming to Joy Preschool.  Doing daycare at home and being there for her own children was a very rewarding experience.

Debbie began as an Assistant Teacher at Joy Preschool in November, 2000.  One year later she took the necessary classes to receive her CDA certification.  Debbie continues to take classes at Glendale Community College as well as various workshops to enhance her quality of care for the children.  She has been a Lead Teacher in the Extended Care program for the last four and a half years and has been blessed to work with the finest teachers in the state.  She is currently a Lead Teacher in the Co-op Preschool three-year-old and four-year-old program.  She recently completed part of the CORE Knowledge training for preschool.
