From the Athletic Director

Welcome to Joy Christian Athletics!

"They shall soar with wings like Eagles."
Isaiah 40:31

Joy Christian School's Sports Program, in an effort to build community spirit, self-esteem, lifetime fitness, and athletic skills, is designed to offer excellent programs, K - 12. Our programs provide the opportunity for all students to participate whether at the recreational or competitive level.

Recreational Sports Program – Lower School (Grades K - 4)

This program is designed for students from Kindergarten through fourth grade. The emphasis of this sports program is FUNdamentals. Our goal will be to teach basic skills and concepts of the game through fun drills and organized play. Sportsmanship and teamwork will be pillars of the program as we teach participants to honor Christ in all we do and say. We offer three team sports — Soccer, T-Ball, and Basketball — at each grade level. Each sport will run for 6 weeks, and will practice and compete intramurally one day per week.

Interscholastic Sports Program – Middle School (Grades 5 - 8)

The JCS Interscholastic Sports Program includes students from fifth through eighth grade and encourages participation regardless of ability or experience. Each student will be taught the fundamentals of the sport and the value of teamwork. Sportsmanship is always emphasized, and all athletes, coaches, and parents are expected to honor Christ with what they say and do. Sports for girls include: softball, volleyball, cross country, basketball, track, soccer, and cheerleading. Sports for boys include softball, soccer, cross country, basketball, track, and tackle football through N.Y.S. Joy Christian School belongs to the Black Canyon Lutheran Athletic League comprised of Lutheran schools throughout the state.

A.I.A. Competitive High School Athletics

Joy Christian High School is a member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association. We compete in the 1A Conference as a part of the West Region. Although this is a highly competitive level of athletics, we aim to never lose sight of our philosophy and goals. Regardless of what is at stake, we will always strive to honor Christ in what we do and say. Currently, we offer boys and girls cross country, basketball, and track, as well as boy’s football. We are poised to provide baseball, cheerleading, golf, softball, tennis, volleyball, and wrestling within the immediate future as we continue to grow.

Sports Program Goals (K - 12)

The Athletic Department presents opportunities for students to participate in sports regardless of a student’s skill level or prior knowledge of the sport. Students build character and self-esteem through hard work and dedication, as well as develop and display good sportsmanship and respect for teammates and opponents. JCS Athletics allows students to experience the relationship between practice and improvement, and how that transfers to other areas of life. As students progress in our program, they enhance technical skills, learn game strategies, and come to understand the importance of teamwork. Our students benefit by being involved in sports as they learn how to balance athletics and academics, as well as realizing the lifelong health and social importance of athletics. They also learn responsibility and self-discipline by being a valuable part of a team.

I thank God for giving me the opportunity to be a part of the building process of something so exciting. It is my distinct privilege to be involved in the life of every JCS student through P.E. and Sports.

I look forward to using athletics as a vehicle to enhance your child’s excellent experience at Joy Christian School.

In His Service,

Jim James
