POSITION REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL FACULTY
A life full of joy, grace, faith, and integrity!
These are the standards for excellence required of all teachers to be considered at Joy Christian School.
It is understood that all individuals being considered for teaching positions are to be screened according to these standards and that extensive interviewing and referencing as directed by the Administrator and the Teacher Selection Team of the Finalists will occur to verify that they (1) meet these requirements and (2) are the best candidates for the position.
- Must be a mature Christian who has a strong walk with the Lord. Must be able to embrace the concept of the school and church as a total ministry – are like-minded in that they believe the school is an outreach and discipleship center. The fully support the mission, vision, and core values of CCOJ and JCS. They understand the need, and are able to nurture and build strong relationships with parents and students. Preference given to those who will become an active member of Community Church of Joy.
- Must have a Degree in Education – A Bachelor’s degree in Education or in their teaching specialty. Preference given to those with a minimum of a Master’s degree. Must have or be willing to obtain a Masters Degree in Education, beginning their studies in September of their 4th year at JCS.
- Must be passionate about teaching young people. Student-centered, have a big heart for the kids. Interested in & enjoy developing children. Believe in “partnering with parents” (working closely with and relating to parents) for the child’s benefit.
- Must be mature and personally & emotionally stable. Mature in their philosophy & actions, have a supportive family, no criminal record.
- Must have a strong servant leadership attitude. A giver, not a taker. Humble. Cares about people. Sensitive to their needs. Leads by example, no matter what the task. Enjoys mentoring and developing others. Not afraid to step up to the plate when there is a need - not bound by his/her job description. Assertive (will stand up for his position if he feels he’s right, yet will embrace another approach if he’s overruled) and a team player (considerate & supportive of others, open with their thinking, relate well).
- Positive personality traits – self motivated, strong commitment to do their very best, lots of initiative, doesn’t require close supervision, dependable (good attendance record, completes work accurately & on time, comes prepared to meetings, etc.), well organized, positive attitude (upbeat, “can do” attitude, a Joy advocate!), intelligent (good common sense), high integrity (walks his/her talk, does what he said he’ll do), good attention to detail & follow-up, good problem solver, good judgment (support their recommendations with facts and include solutions with the problems they present), flexible thinker (not ridged, willing & able to try a new approach), want to grow (willing to take additional courses to improve skills), strong work ethic.
- Preference will be given to experienced teacher candidates with a minimum of 2 years teaching elementary
education, 4 years for middle and high school. Demonstrated ability to teach to multiple learning styles in all
modalities. Must love the subject matter of what they teach. A verifiable record of accomplishments
made with every position held since college (pattern of success) is evident.
- Preference will be given to teacher candidates that are graduates of a Lutheran or Christian college– and at minimum, have completed coursework in teaching the faith in the classroom, including coursework in Lutheran doctrine.
