Chinese Curriculum
Chinese I
This class is a basic course for beginning students of Chinese. It provides
students with the opportunity to develop communicative skills in both
spoken and written Chinese at a basic level. The first four classes
are designed for students to become familiar with the Chinese language.
Language functions and notions are systematically incorporated in all
topics and settings by using the “Ni Hao” series of books. Various
interactive activities are employed to make the language learning meaningful.
Each topic and its many settings reflect upon the student’s interests
and their practical usage of the language. Real life language is used.
Cultural elements are included in al topics to motivate students, to
broaden their cultural understanding and to generate an appreciation
of the Chinese language and culture.
Chinese II
This is the second course in Beginning Chinese. The course is designed
for students who have completed Chinese I at Joy Christian High School.
The emphasis in this course is on continuously improving vocabulary
and sentence patterns in communicative contexts, and a solid foundation
in pronunciation. Reading and writing will be developed in conjunction
with speaking and listening skills. Students will expand their ability
to carry out conversations in Chinese on a range of topics taught.
They will be expected to speak, read, and write all new words in vocabulary
lists in the main textbook. Students are provided with interactive
software to practice their listening, speaking, reading and writing
skills. Classroom exercises will allow students to practice in communicative
situations. Cultural elements are included in all topics to develop
an in-depth understanding of the Chinese language and culture.
Spanish Curriculum
Joy Christian High School utilizes an organization call Interlingua to administer our Spanish curriculum to our students.
