Lower School - Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome to Joy Christian School! Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ continues to bless the ministry of this school with outstanding students, parents and educators. Joy Christian School has just surpassed our ten year anniversary. Throughout the last few years Joy has received accreditation through the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), implemented the Core Knowledge Curriculum, experienced exponential growth, and formed a partnership with Sequoia Choice Distance Learning. Each of these has allowed the school to continue to build future Christian leaders.

Foundational to our school is the commitment to Christ-centered education. All learning, in and outside the classroom is wrapped around biblical truths and understanding of a biblical world view. Our faculty and students openly express their love and commitment through their actions and words. It is our mission to guide students on their path to becoming a well rounded child of God in mind, body and spirit.

The academic basics such as reading, writing and mathematics are addressed to meet and exceed the Arizona State Standards. Many of the standards are enhanced through the integration of the Core Knowledge Curriculum. These subjects are taught through innovative instruction techniques implemented through Quantum Learning, a brain researched method of instruction. Students have greater success when they are loved and accepted within the classroom. Joy strives to make each child's learning an awesome experience by allowing Christ to be the center of all that the school does.

Core Knowledge is the basis of our daily curriculum. JCS is currently recognized as a "Friend of Core Knowledge School." The school is committed to providing our students with a challenging and engaging curriculum. Through Core Knowledge the students have the opportunity to experience extensive topics. Upon touring JCS you may enter a 3rd grade classroom converted into a Viking Ship, a first grade classroom that is studying Ancient Egypt, a debate in a middle school classroom over the decision of John Brown at Harper's Ferry, or a fifth grade classroom exploring the systems of the human body. This curriculum is sequenced to insure that every child has an opportunity to experience all subject areas more than once throughout their academic career investigating deeper each time.

JCS is a home to our students and their families. The school is committed to the partnership between home and school that will continue to contribute to the success of JCS. This partnership is foundational to the excellent education of our students. The school encourages all parents to become actively involved in our volunteer ministry which is facilitated by our on staff Parent Involvement Coordinator.

I realize through my own experiences as a parent that choosing a school is one of the most challenging decisions to be made.
