Standard of Dress

Philosophy

Joy Christian School (JCS) is primarily interested in developing the spiritual growth of each student. We are also vitally interested in having every student acquire the intellectual, physical and social skills that make for effective participation in Christian living. As a Christian community, Joy Christian encourages and expects proper dress, speech and manners, so that each student reflects the person he/she is and is becoming as a child of God.

JCS strives to promote excellence in all areas of education — including dress. The focal point of our faculty is to prepare and equip our students to become strong Christian leaders. In addition, our goal is to provide an outstanding academic environment whereby every student will have the opportunity to be successful. To accomplish these purposes, careful consideration has been given to the formulation of the Standard of Dress Policy. The benefit of a dress standard is the atmosphere created by well-dressed young people in the classroom setting and on campus.

JCS requires all students to adhere to a Standard of Dress. Just as employees represent the company or corporation for whom they work, so we represent the Christian church on earth. Therefore, the Standard of Dress emphasizes cleanliness, modesty, good taste, neatness. Students will quickly learn that being well dressed boosts self-esteem and earns the respect of others. Additionally, we strive to project a distinctive, bold and positive image to the community.

Application

All JCS students must wear the prescribed Standard of Dress tops available through Dennis Uniform Company. Information on placing orders is available in the school office.

The Standard of Dress applies every school day. On special "school-spirit" days, students who choose not to participate in the activity must follow the daily Standard of Dress. The Standard of Dress is in effect during the academic hours of the school day. In addition, the Standard of Dress applies on field trips, school related athletic events/other school sponsored activities, and other times determined by the administration, faculty member, or coach. Students involved in co-curricular programs will wear designated practice equipment or will follow the Standard of Dress.

The cooperation of students, parents and teachers is necessary to maintain the Standard of Dress. It is very important that the Standard of Dress is accepted fully and is enforced consistently. Enforcing the Standard of Dress is not the sole responsibility of the school. Parents are expected to cooperate with the school in monitoring their child's daily attire.

If the attire of a student is immodest or inappropriate, corrective measures will be taken by the administration. Additionally, the administration has the discretion to not allow anything relating to dress or appearance of a student not specifically mentioned in this policy and considered inconsistent with school policy. Students will be given community clothing if what they are wearing does not meet the standard of dress.
